Integrating Technology-Based Constructivist
Learning Approaches into Classrooms

Preparation

Before starting the course, documentation related to the course will be sent to participants by e-mail. It will include local information and accommodation as well as the login information for the Learning Management System (LMS) that will be used during and after the training. Also, a Web page will be launched before the course so that all participants will get the whole details.

The participants will be asked to prepare presentations about their countries and educational systems before the course. They will be asked to install some free software to their tablets and/or laptops in order not to lose time during the course

Objectives

Overall goal of the training is to help participant teachers acquire skills and attitudes about integration of constructivist learning approaches that promote effective use of technology. Among these approached are there, cognitive apprenticeship, authentic learning, distributed learning, epistemic games, generative learning, project-based approaches, etc.

More precisely, at the end of the training participant teachers will be able to;

• Discuss effective ways of adapting constructivist learning approaches into classrooms

• Evaluate potentials and limitations of adapting constructivist learning approaches into classrooms

• Develop lesson plans that promotes effective use of constructivist learning approaches with technology

Methodology

Design of the training is based on project-based learning approach. The participants will be completing a series of activities aligned with the objectives while the instructor will serve as a facilitator to foster the deep learning and as a model to the participants to show them the actual implementation of the skills targeted in the training.

While working on activities, the participants will also access theoretical knowledge about the content. A learning management system will be used during the delivery of the training. The system will work both a resource center and a showcase environment for the lesson scenarios that will be designed and developed by the participants.

The training is organized into 3 modules: (1) Introduction of constructivism and constructivist learning approaches, (2) constructivist learning approaches that promotes effective use of technology, and (3) design and development of constructivist lessons.

Follow-Up

The e-learning management system will be used to as an open-platform for all the participants and the instructor to maintain to exchange information and experiences. All the materials will be available in the system as open education resource for the participants.
